The things that are keeping me going

1. Humor. Who knew Hillary had any?
2. Signs of redemption in class after making myself look like a bumbling idiot (see below).
Professor: Can you tell us why you're interested in this material?
Me: Well, I'm likely going to be using some of it this summer working on a project in Malawi.
Professor: What's the project about?
Me: That's an excellent question. .... Um...I don't know...um... ... If I went on from here, I'd just be making stuff up, so perhaps I'll just leave it at that and read the grant proposal again.
3. Looking forward to the Michael Jackson Sing-a-Long.
You can imagine how much I like early Michael Jackson if that's really keeping me going.

I was in Kenya last week, an experience which a number of people wondered if I was chronicling here. I wasn't at the time, mostly due to an exhausting work schedule while there. I had great plans to come home at night and work on problem sets and reading for this week, but only got the requisite grading done. But suffice it to say that I'll try to back-post thoughts (and pictures) from the trip. I saw a rhino, and so should you.
And among the other things I'm up to these days, I'm going to try to keep this thing going as a way to keep others updated on my life. Or at the very least, what I'm reading, thinking about, listening to, watching, or eating (I think I just about covers all my senses and activities).
Today's example:
1. This hilarious, and kind of inspiring (in a geeky, researcher sort of way), blog post from an economist working in post-conflict settings.
2. I'm excited and nervous about what's up in Zimbabwe. The Washington Post is doing some good reporting (like here), and there are some interesting perspectives in the bloggosphere. I didn't see any of the violence, or any remnants of it, when I was in Kenya, but I worry that might erupt in Zim, even under the authoritarian rule Mugabe has successfully put in place. But I'm hopeful, and it looks promising.
